After 52 Years In the Supermarket Business, Ron Dennis Retires As Farm Fresh President
March 2010
Ron Dennis, Farm Fresh president and chief operating officer, retired from the retailer on March 5.
“I thank Ron for his years of service and wish him the best as he begins this new chapter in his life,” said Brian Huff, senior vice president, specialty retail for Supervalu.
“Under Ron’s leadership, Farm Fresh has built a rich tradition of extraordinary customer service and community support. By continuing to focus on these hallmarks, we look forward to Farm Fresh’s continued success.” Dennis’ successor as president of Farm Fresh has not been announced. In the interim, Huff will assume Dennis’ responsibilities. All operations and business strategies will continue as normal, the retailer said in announcing Dennis’ retirement.
Dennis joined Farm Fresh as president and COO in 1997 after the retailer was purchased by Richfood, which was ultimately acquired by today’s parent company, Supervalu. The company had been struggling for several years, and Dennis was seen as the ideal executive to help turn the struggling retailer around. His 52 year career in the grocery business got its start at A&P in 1958 doing odds jobs in the stores.
In 1976 he joined Albertsons, eventually rising to the post of vice president of that chain’s Florida division. Just prior to joining Farm Fresh, Dennis had served as president of Kash ‘n Karry Supermarkets.
“While I am proud of the many successes we have achieved at Farm Fresh during my tenure, I am looking forward to retiring and spending more time with my family,” said Dennis. “I will miss working with the many talented people at Farm Fresh and wish the team the very best as they continue to grow the business.”
